HBK Engineering is seeking an experienced Licensed Illinois Structural Engineer to oversee the technical execution of projects within a team of engineers and designers, focusing on structural and geotechnical utility infrastructure designs to support HBK's rapidly expanding service offerings across power, renewables, telecom, gas and municipal engineering sectors. The ideal candidate will drive client success through project execution, contributing to the growth and excellence of our organization.

Within the HBK Organization, the Senior Structural Engineer will provide technical oversight and day-to-day management for structural and geotechnical engineering projects. This role requires a deep understanding of the technical aspects of our work, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.

Our Structural Team’s service offerings include but are not limited to design of permanent and temporary structures such as poles, manholes, vaults, and earth retention systems. Foundation work includes slab-on-grade, shallow foundation, deep foundations, helical pile design, pole foundations, solar equipment foundations, equipment pad design, structural support of electric vehicle charging projects, riser foundations, concrete pedestals, pipe protection slabs, utility supports and retaining walls.  Onsite evaluations are a large part of the work provided by HBK as well, including transmission towers, manholes, vaults and tunnels.  HBK projects span the US and our team is growing to support the increasing demand for our services.

Description:
Technical Responsibilities
  • Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction-related issues.
  • Prepare technical memos, reports, construction specifications, and other written documentation.
  • Read and interpret drawings, calculations, schematics, and reports.
  • Apply engineering theories, techniques, and analysis to structural and geotechnical engineering designs.
  • Work on new and existing wood, masonry, steel, and concrete structures.
  • Work on building foundations; deep shaft and trench excavation, temporary and permanent earth retention.
  • Conduct structural investigations, field inspections, and engineering analysis.
  • Perform conceptual and value engineering with emphasis on constructability issues.
  • Perform engineer-of-record responsibilities, including stamping and sealing drawings as required
Project Execution and Quality Assurance
  • Ensure the highest quality deliverables to our clients.
  • Identify project risks and support the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Assist project managers in development and monitoring of project execution plans to reconcile scope and schedule constraints and ensure project success.
  • Work cross-functionally with other business departments to align design activities and deliverables.
  • Take ultimate responsibility for ensuring client deliverables meet the highest standards
Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead a project team consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel.
  • Coach, mentor, and lead team members. Encourage employee engagement and maintain high morale.
  • Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of engineering deliverables
Client Relations
  • Maintain and grow current client relationships
  • Lead engineering effort on proposal responses
  • Communicate project successes and client feedback within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on civil / structural / geotechnical engineering required.
  • 10+ years’ experience in structural and/or geotechnical engineering required.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure (Illinois preferred)
  • Licensed Structural Engineer registration in the State of Illinois preferred
Essential skills:
  • Knowledge of industry design codes including AISC, ASCE, UBC and IBC are required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of principles of structural engineering, temporary construction systems and geotechnical engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience with leading teams.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Valued skills and experiences:
  • Consulting background preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office products
  • Knowledge of Deltek system

Primary Location:  Oak Brook, IL

Pay range: $115,000.00 to $150,000.00 annually, commensurate with experience.

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and the potential to participate in our discretionary annual incentive bonus program.
