The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Lead a project team Lead a project team consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the concept design, modification, analysis and construction of public and private infrastructure.
  • The ability to have direct, positive client interaction on all phases of projects
  • Assisting with developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and schedules as well as assisting with managing each element
  • Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction related issues.
  • Act as a team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of utility infrastructure projects including municipal and private work.
  • Prepare, review and/or approve proposals, contracts or cost estimates.
  • Negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready and Street Light projects, using customer GIS and WMS systems such as GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer and Maximo.
  • Experience and comfort in both a field and office settings
  • Ability to understand and learn customer driven engineering and construction standards.
  • Experience with the structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, calculations of electric demand and fault currents.
  • The ability to apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop the most complete and competent design
  • The ability to review and sign/seal engineering packages and reports
  • Minimum Qualifications 
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree
  • 5-10 years of prior relevant experience in either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing design engineering (EIT/FE credentials or PE license is preferred). Equivalent additional experience can be used in place of a degree.
  • Demonstrated 3 or more years of experience in leading an engineering design team through all phases of project designs.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment for electrical distribution systems including the selection of equipment (transformers, metal clad switchgear), materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
  • Three or more years of experience in leading an engineering design team through all phases of a project design.
  • Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design.
  • Overhead and underground electrical utility distribution infrastructure design (primary or secondary)
  • Experience working within and utilizing existing utility standard designs
  • Experience with creating construction work package designs, scheduling, unit estimating systems, outage analysis and joint use work.
  • Experience with cable and joint replacement as well as line and facility upgrade projects
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • PMP Certification.
  • Construction and start-up experience a plus.
  • Commissioning experience a plus.
  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIA
  • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc
  • Experience  using MicroStation--performing Electrical Distribution design
